zoom reading
I took acting classes in college, it's not for me. I'll leave it to the professionals. Having said that some notes for the reading/ rehearsal/ shoot:
- I'm feeling bullish about the comedy. So far, everyone's who's read the script thinks it's funny, therefore, we'll have to take our time with the pacing to give the audience reaction time.
- I'm going for a deadpan take, straightforward, not self aware
- Never say each other's names, EVER, people just don't do that in real life.
- I need to see you guys listen, process and react to each other's lines
- I envision the acting to be low key, with emphasis on facial expressions, and reactions. If it was a concert, think of it as performing a capella or just with an acoustic guitar (the best way I can describe it)
- As mentioned to Jeremy H (our cinematographer), it's not going to be that cinematic (with special effects, techniques, clever shots - I'm saving that for my martial arts musical next year). But we'd still need great production value. I see it more as a filmed play or like an SNL short subject.
- Easier said than done of course, but chemistry is key :-)

What MM needs to do:
Events for cast and me:
1) zoom reading with entire cast with updated script
2) Cast lunch (not mandatory) on me - Team building. At Cabrini 181
3) 1 2-hour rehearsal at a park (paid)
4) 1 shooting day - Ideally it would be a on a Saturday or Sunday, but if needed, on a weekday.
- Get props - guitar with case (John), picnic basket, blanket etc.
- Find locations - Fort Tryon, Inwood Hill Park
- Writing another draft of the script, making it more edgy and Filipino-centric.
- Decide who will play what - Not sure yet who will play who. Maybe we can do a zoom reading once I get the actresses? For now I'm thinking: Philippe/ John (lead), Alfie/ Alan (jaded suburban guy), Jeremy/ Ricky (loner, the guy who wants to travel), Edgar/ the best man. But we'll see... The same with the actresses
- Find music. I know Ted Reyes. I might using some of his music: Ted Reyes Music.
- Build more press so that people will be psyched to see it. Reach out to more of my Filipino press contacts like the Philippine Daily Mirror, ABS CBN, Cinemtagorafo, CAAM, etc.
- Find a film festival strategy: when it comes to film festivals I'm learning - quality over quality. This is an involved process that requires timing. Local festivals are great but ultimately, we need to be in the ones that would lead us to other things, we need to be in festivals that make newspapers! More on that later.
- Possibly change the title to something more Filipino-centric
- Build a more robust, dedicated website
- Build facebook page - need everyone's bios.

cinematographer - fort tryon park 01
The project has to be shot in either Fort Tryon Park or Inwood Hill Park, anywhere in Upper Manhattan, Washington Heights/ Inwood area, weather permitting of course. I'm thinking about shooting the picnic shot first, where everyone is together.

film festivals 2022
With the different themes covered in this film I can enter 1) mainstream festivals 2) Asian themed festivals 3) Filipino themed festivals and 4) Gay and Lesbian festivals.
These are festivals I've had good luck with in the past. I know the people who run them. Most have screened three of my short films already. I'm hoping the streak continues with this one:
